Claw’s Blog for September 7, 2008
We used to live in a world where movie trailers were actually better than the movies themselves. The movie trailers voiceover, Don LaFontaine passed away this past week at the age of 68 due to a collapsed lung. Movie trailers will never be the same again. The Republican National Convention took place in St. Paul Minnesota throughout the week. The biggest story is Sarah Palin and her ongoing family saga with her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, as well as being under an ethics probe in which she fired her ex-brother-in-law, Walter Monegan, because of his failure to fire someone else under his entourage. BTW, doesn’t Palin look like the stripper-teacher Ms. Davis from Varsity Blues? Take a look at this yourself (WARNING: even though the exact link only provides the face shot of the actress, the main website of the source is definitely NSFW). The WB Network has been reignited as an online TV channel only. If you want to see your past favorite shows like “The O.C”, “Smallville”, and “Buffy”, then here’s a chance for you to see these original episodes in all its glory. In fact, this was probably the best network on TV before it became the CW. The best show on that network was actually Everwood; it was a teen angst drama, but it was a lot more enjoyable and realistic than that saccharine 7th Heaven (why that show lasted a lot longer than Everwood, I’ll never know. Hell, why is there only Season 1 on DVD when there were only four?). I’m not sure on why the WB had to fold so soon, but I love that Broadway frog as its trademark mascot. I saw parts of the new 90210. I must say I wasn’t all that impressed with it. Actually, the main teen protagonist is a Christian gospel singer whose family (father is the new principal of West Beverly High) moved from Kansas to Beverly Hills, so that plot sort of raised a WTF from me. I even see crueler ways to spread rumors in H.S. like using blog spheres. Thank God I’m not a teenager anymore. I could’ve sworn if the show was a little less juicy, it would’ve been on TBN. Jeannie Garth and Shannen Doherty reprise their roles as Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh, respectively, from the original series. Speaking of the original series, while I don’t remember the exact details of it, I remember the high school years of the show being the best part of the series. There were always life lessons to be learned like teen pregnancy, drinking, dealing with the death of a friend, and incest. After that, the show just turned into a regular soap opera, never to be seen the same way again. Sigh. The Los Angeles Dodgers (the REAL L.A. team) is now in first place of the N.L. West (AKA the N.L. Worst), ½ a game ahead (at the time of this writing) of Arizona. The only way for the Dodgers to qualify for the playoffs, with 20 games left, is to win the division. The Milwaukee Brewers are about 9 games ahead of the Dodgers in the Wild Card, so forget about it. It’s all about winning the division now (however weak). GO DODGERS!!! Sorry for the lateness of the posting. With my job resuming as a sub as well as tutoring after school and going to 24-Hour Fitness, I have less time to figure out the happenings in the world, but with such easy access to the Internet, there’s always something to write about.
