Grindhouse

A Double Feature:

Planet Terror

Written and Directed: Robert Rodriguez

Death Proof

Written and Directed: Quentin Tarantino

On Planet Terror;

If you liked both Night of the Living Dead movies, as well as their ill humored parodies, like Return of the Living Dead, without intellectualizing any of them, then you will like this feature. Cherry Darling played by the burlesquely beautiful Rose McGowan opens the movie with a tantalizing striptease, that in any other movie, following the horror movie rules, would merit her death. Sex, blood and exploding guts, Tarantino’s cameo is venereal, and boys, hold on to your balls! The blonde girl from the T.V. series version of Clueless, I forget her name, she does a great job as Josh Brolin’s cheating lesbian wife. What it does to their son is morbid. So….….Sex+Blood & Gutts+Morbid Sense of Humor=Hil-Fukin-Arious…

On Coming Attractions

Machete: “You messed with the wrong Mexican”

Thanksgiving: Trench coat Booty Fukin killer….

Don’t: Don’t……

On Death Proof;

Sidney Poitier’s daughter was in this one, scantily clad with a potty mouth to boost. Pot smoking/ obscure music connoisseur, her character’s cynicism and bravado left this reviewer COLD. I thought maybe Rosario Dawson would save the day, but I was mostly preoccupied with her hair line, it looked as if she waxes the baby hairs. That’s about how much I was into the plot. A group of girls connected to each other thru work, two of them are stunt people and Rosario is a Makeup artist, hit the road on a borrowed sports car and do stunts, that drunken frat boys are more susceptible to doing. Though I do remember doing “Bat Wings” once in a drunken stupor, you know when your driving down the street really fast, open the car door and hang out. Well, Kurt Russell has a little surprise for them and they for him. Drop Kick, Rosario……Drop Kick.

I love the movies that inspired both these films, Vanishing Point, Night of the Living Dead. See those if you can. In all? Go see, but if you want to leave after the first one, I wouldn’t blame you. You can always wait for the DVD or a bootleg to catch the second show…

(editor's note: we do not endorse Miss N's comment on bootleg DVD's since this is something that we do not condone.)
